the term graphic novel is a bit contentious in the book world. it is a type of text combining words and images, essentially using the content of a comic. however, a graphic novel is typically a standalone story rather than a periodical. the potentially of a graphic novel is, in my opinion, more expansive than that of a comic, and perhaps closer aligned to a book.
