in the course of my research, i discovered that north atlantic cod has had a troubled history. over fishing and warming seas have caused fluctuations in numbers, but demand for cod in the uk is still strong. in recent years fishing of cod, amongst other fish, has become a political issue. uk leaders promise a brexit trade deal that hands more power to the men and women who catch our fish. however, a resolution could be decades in the making. issues closer to home including tourism and gentrification add more pressure on to an already dangerous and poorly paid employment.
